Maxim runs a large-format production with a headline DJ or performer and a heavy celebrity guest list. It is also one of the most counterfeited tickets of the week, so buy it from the organiser or an authorised seller and nowhere else.

The names that come back every year

Super Bowl week attracts more ticket fraud than any other event on the American calendar. A few checks catch most of it:

• No venue named. Legitimate events announce a venue before they take money, or they say plainly that the venue is to be announced and give a date when it will be.
• Stock photography from a different city. Reverse image search the hero photo.
• A price with no tier detail. Real promoters publish what general admission, table and VIP each include.
• Pressure language. Countdown timers and fake scarcity counters on a party that has not announced a lineup are a bad sign.
• No refund or cancellation terms. Events do move and get cancelled. The terms should say what happens if that occurs.

• Dinner reservations open 30 to 60 days out at most LA restaurants, so the Valentine’s slots will be gone by mid-January.
• Hotels sell out early. Southern California hotels have historically run near full occupancy during Super Bowl week, and the holiday weekend adds to it. Presidents’ Day falls the next day.
• Daytime events are undervalued. A brunch or a day club on the Saturday leaves the Sunday evening free, which solves the Valentine’s problem for a lot of couples.
